WHITE-TAILED EAGLE

27-08-2019 Mull

The obligatory trip to Mull whilst at Ardnamurchan and we went out with Mull Charters. Weather was not great as it was overcast and light rain. Nevertheless we saw at least four WTE. It is the best way to get close to the birds but we also saw at least another three birds at different locations on the peninsula during our stay.

PINE MARTEN

August 24th - 30th 2019 - Glenborrowdale, Ardnamurchan

My first time on the peninsula, my first and second Pine Marten (the one in daylight has a different coat and distinct left ear notch) and my first attempt at night photography!

Along with Badgers, these lovely animals appeared in the garden of our holiday cottage which was nice and convenient, although not easy, as I spent many hours camped out overnight in my hide to get the shots. There was only one daytime visit during our stay and this was late at 8.30pm so low light conditions. A number of the shots are 4K video grabs (video to follow at some point).

COMMON CUCKOO

21-06-2019 Pocklington Canal

I spent an early morning at a hide managed by Mark Hughes. Arriving at 5.30am, we were set up fairly quickly and almost immediately joined by a male and female Cuckoo. During the specified time allowed (1.5-2 hours) two males and one female visited the perches on numerous occasions and a male and female were chasing each other around allowing me to capture a few flight shots. Light was variable and ISOs varied from 640 - 2,000 using my 500mm lens.
