GREY PARTRIDGE

A nice encounter with the local Grey Partridge whilst filming Brown Hares

BROWN HARE

28-05-2019 Green Moor

My second stake out but in the field this time with camo netting over from 3.45 am until 8 am. I thought I would try the top of the field as I had observed a number of hares there on my first visit. This turned out to be a mistake. I did get a close encounter with an adult hare quite early on which was followed by three young hares chasing each other around at breakneck speed.

I noticed two adults mating at the bottom of the field and so decided to relocate by crawling gradually down the field whilst still under cover. This was quite tiring as I had to keep lifting tripod and camera and moving at two or three feet at a time. After 20 minutes though I had successfully approached the pair without disturbing them and managed to get video and stills of the pair mating over two hours.

I also had a pair of Grey Partridge walk straight past me which was a great bonus.

BROWN HARE

It is a long time since I have posted but as I have retired recently I hope to get up to date soon with all the posts retrospectively updated.

I got up at 3am to be on site locally for 4am and camouflaged against a boundary wall adjacent to a field where I had previously seen hares.

Just after first light the first hare appeared and soon after six more included juveniles although a little distant. Video to be posted soon but here are the shots I took of a particularly close individual who proceeded to jump a 5 foot wall!

If you look in the eye shot you will see me reflected.
